Hazel G. Anderson

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Hazel G. Anderson, 90, of 1412 Putnam St., Wakefield, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015.

Hazel was born on July 27, 1924, in Marquette, a daughter of James and Ruth (Nebel) Anglim.

On June 28, 1943, Hazel married Lawrence R. "Andy" Anderson Sr. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Marquette. They made their home in Wakefield.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Women's Guild, and was a charter and life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 in Wakefield.

For a short time, Hazel worked at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility, and then for local dentists, Dr. Victor Bigford and Dr. Robert Aukee. She was the city librarian until her retirement.

Hazel volunteered countless hours as a 4-H leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She served on the Wakefield Co-op board as well as the City of Wakefield Housing Commission.

For more than 40 years, she and her husband ran Anderson's Bed and Breakfast, where Hazel was well known for her delicious blueberry stuffed French toast. She loved to bake pies and make candy, which she shared with family and friends.

Hazel is survived by four sons, Larry (Connie), Bessemer, Roger (Diane), Wakefield, Dennis (Kathy), Maple Grove, Minn., and James (Jody), Owatonna, Minn .; two daughters, Dawn (Ron) Mueller, Westfield, Wis., and Rita (Bob) Brentar, Bessemer; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Cora Ann Paulson, Duluth, Minn .; two sisters-in-law, Florence Eldredge, Ewen, and Marilyn Anglim, Gladstone; her brother-in-law, Brent Shelton, St. Johns; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 62 years, Lawrence, on Aug. 27, 2005; a daughter, Faith Elizabeth, on May 11, 1951; a grandson, Zachary Cory Kesti, on April 12, 2009; two brothers, Roy and Adrian Anglim; and a sister, Marie Shelton.

Friends may call at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., where a Ladies Auxiliary Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., and a vigil service will be prayed at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. Antony Lukka, celebrant. Also in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Hazel's grandsons and great-grandsons.

Following the Mass, lunch will be served downstairs of church.

Rite of Committal and interment will be held at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
