John A. Mussatti

BESSEMER, Mich. – John A. Mussatti, 80, of Bessemer, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015. 

John was born on July 11, 1934, in Bessemer, son of the late Magdalene Adamczak Mussatti. He attended Bessemer schools and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1952.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of the Bessemer American Legion Post 27.

John worked in the soft drink industry for many years, as a supervisor at White Pine Copper Co., and for Bessemer Plywood Corp. as a log scaler/buyer until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Mary Tillman. She preceded him in death in 1965.

John then married Virginia Calvi. She preceded him in death in 1983.

John is survived by four children, Loraine (Paul Harley) Mussatti of Wakefield, Donna Rajk, Cliff Mussatti and Nicole (Ed) Hocking, all of Bessemer; six grandchildren, Roy Mussatti, Deanna Mussatti, Jody Mazes, Justin Mussatti, Cassie Mussatti and Marco Rajk; four sisters, Pauline Popko of Marquette, Margaret (Randy) Swanbeck, Fort Bridger, Wyo., Sue (Andy) Hill of Wakefield and Nancy Kalla of Ironwood; a brother, David (Vicki) Mussatti, Bessemer; the love of his life and special friend, Naomi Voit of Wakefield, and her extended family; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Besides his mother and wives, he was preceded in death by his grandson, John R. Mazes, on Dec. 23, 1997.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.

Following the service, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of Bessemer American Legion Post 27 and Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673 Honor Guard.

Lunch will be served in the church fellowship hall following the military salute.

Interment will take place at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.
