Dance company joins anti-bullying campaign

IRONWOOD — The city commission on Monday proclaimed April 24-May 3 National Dance Week in the city of Ironwood.

The proclamation suggested by Mayor Kim Corcoran was approved after Joan Movrich addressed the commission about the Ironwood Dance Company’s contributions to the community and its current anti-bullying campaign.

Margaret Grachek, president, director and teacher for the Ironwood Dance Company, expressed her gratitude for the support the city commission has given to the IDC in the past.

In a letter to the commission, she said the anti-bullying awareness campaign is being conducted in conjunction with the Gogebic County Mental Health organization, with performances at elementary and high schools throughout the Ironwood area.

Mayors across the country and state Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, are stressing he importance of arts, including dance, in communities, Grachek said.
