Marvin D. Smith

BESSEMER, Mich. - Marvin D. Smith, 51, of Bessemer, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 18, 2015, at home with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 26, 1963, in Wakefield to Alan Dean and Wildah Lee (Kitzman) Smith. Marvin attended local schools and graduated from the A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer with the class of 1981.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from Aug. 24, 1982, until May 2, 1986. Marvin was employed as an over the road truck driver for Dixon Brothers of New Castle, Wyo. His job allowed him to work and enjoy traveling the country. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley. Marvin was a hard worker and loved his family.

He is survived by his parents; special friend, Kim LaPierre; his daughter, Ali Rocovits, whom Marvin considered as a daughter; a brother, Bernard (Sandy) Smith of Ironwood; four sisters, Twila "Julie" (John) Cox of Wakefield, Barbara (Pat Peterson) Allen of Ironwood, Celinda Smith of Bessemer and Theresa (Tim) O'Brien of Wausau, Wis .; nieces and nephews, Jacob and Jordan Cox, Jennifer Smith, Heaven Allen, Ricky (Cassie) Allen, Cory Allen, Ashton Hocking, Candis (Joe) Dart, Timothy (Rachel) O'Brien and Samantha O'Brien. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Christian Church in Ramsay. Rev. Todd Winkler will officiate. Marvin's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.

Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 27 and VFW Post 3673 combined Honor Guard.
