Samuel A. 'Sam' Caruso

FLINT, Mich. - Samuel A. "Sam" Caruso, 68, of Flint, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at McLaren-Flint.

Sam was born in Ironwood on Feb. 17, 1947, the son of the late Louis and Mary Caruso and stepson of Stanley Zasadni. Sam married Judith Peterson Tangen on Aug. 10, 1974, at Woodside Church. Sam graduated from Mott Adult Education.

Sam was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, casinos and spending time with his grandchildren. He retired as a pipefitter leader from General Motors Truck and Bus in 2007 after 42 years of service and was a member of UAW local 598.

Surviving are wife, Judith; children, Brian and wife Deborah Tangen of Grand Blanc, Todd and wife Brenda Caruso of Spring Creek, Nev., Lisa Tangen-McGregor of Flint, Cathy Caruso-Ofstad of Hurley, Wis. and Kelly Caruso-Prieur and husband Greg of Birch Run; grandchildren, Crystal and husband Brian Pope, Alyssa Caruso and partner Alex Beeler, Jessica McGregor, Samantha Ofstad, Zach Ofstad, Allison McGregor, Cassidy Ofstad, Zoe Prieur and Max Ofstad; great-grandchildren, Shane, Sienna and Seth Pope, Chloe and Brooklyn Beeler; brothers and sisters, Sonia and husband Chris Bergquist of Ironwood, Rick and wife Rose Caruso of Swartz Creek, Dominic and wife Susan Caruso of Prescott, Ariz., Dennis Caruso and wife Lauren of Eau Clare, Wis., Lisa Olsen of Alexandria, La. and Eric and wife April Caruso of Green Bay, Wis .; many nieces and nephews; and beloved pet, Daisy May Caruso.

Sam was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tangen; and brother, Louis Caruso.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, with Pastor Jonathan Moyer officiating.

Visitation on Tuesday will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation on Wednesday at the Faith Lutheran Church will begin at 1 p.m., and continue until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren-Flint.
