Ironwood budget shows minor increase in taxes

IRONWOOD — The 2015-’16 budget the Ironwood City Commission will consider Monday includes a small increase in city property taxes.

According to the proposed budget resolution, property taxes of $1,777,000 are projected, compared to the $1,675,000 approved a year ago, or less than a 1 percent increase.

The city’s fiscal year runs through June.

The total general fund budget to be considered Monday by city commissioners is $3,168,000, up $41,000 from a year ago.

The total of all expenditures in the city for the upcoming fiscal year, including street, water, sewer and equipment funds, is $12,229,600.

A total of $1,019,000 is expected to be received by the city for the year in state grant awards.

The following tax mills, 29.6658 in total, will be collected:

—General fund: 19.2 mills.

—Library fund: .9658 mill.

—Police and fire pension fund: 6.5 mills.

—2015 street bond debt service: 2 mills.

—Civic center fund: 1 mill.

Also, 1.9414 mills are levied against the C-2 (commerical) zoned Downtown Commercial District and used for financing the Downtown Ironwood Development Authority.

The budget hearing is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., before the commission’s regular 5:30 p.m. session in commission chambers on the second floor of the Memorial Building.

Adoption of the budget is on the agenda for the regular meeting.
