IRONWOOD, Mich. - Elaine M. Larson, 99, of Ironwood, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 8, 2015, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.

The former Elaine Fafford was born June 7, 1915, in Ashland, Wis., daughter of the late Edward and Ada (Fountain) Fafford, and graduated from high school in Saxon, Wis. She was then employed as postmistress at the Saxon Post Office for several years.

She was married to Lyle C. Larson on July 1, 1939, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon, by the Rev. Paul Boshold. Lyle preceded her in death on March 1, 2003.

Elaine was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She loved gardening, and enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling with Lyle in their camper. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl (Rex) Richardson, Big Rapids; two grandchildren, Scott Richardson, Charlotte, and Eric (Jackie) Richardson, Big Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Alec and Austin; sister-in-law, Jean Wald, Cable, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert, in 2008; brother, Myron "Mike" Fafford, in 2008; and daughter-in-law, Betty Larson, in 2005.

Per Elaine's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Our Lady of Peace Adopt-A-Student Program, 108 S. Marquette St., Ironwood, MI 49938, or HOPE Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 261, Ironwood, MI 49938.
