Area farmers markets kick off soon

As the warm weather lingers and vegetables continue to grow, several area farmers markets are getting ready to begin.

The Iron County Farmers Market in Hurley is held at the pavilion on U.S. 51, across from Chippewa Valley Bank from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning on June 27 and ending on Oct. 17.

Iron County market days are:

June 27 — Opening day at the market, June dairy day celebration.

July 4 — No market.

July 11 — Strawberry shortcake day.

July 18 — 4-H and youth club day.

July 25 — Farm heritage day and tractor show.

Aug. 1 — Iron County Fair day.

Aug. 8 — Summer Sisu.

Aug. 15 — Gogebic County Fair Day.

Aug. 22 — 25th anniversary celebration of the market pavilion.

Aug. 29 — Back to school day.

Sept. 5 — Italian heritage day cookout.

Sept. 12 — Grandparents/senior citizen day.

Sept. 19 — Customer appreciation day.

Sept. 26 — Fall harvest contest.

Oct. 3 — Kids' pumpkin bowling and best decorated pumpkin contest.

Oct. 10 — 5K pumpkin run/walk.

Oct. 17 — Last day of 2015 market.

The Ironwood Township Farmers Market meets from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays at Airport Park. The markets begin on July 7 and run through mid-October, depending on weather. The first six weeks will feature special "Wellness Days."

Ironwood Township Farmers Market Wellness Days are:

July 7 — Market opening with Aspirus Grandview's "Healthy Steps Challenge."

July 14 — Michigan State University Extension's healthy game night.

July 21 — Yoga day.

July 28 — Aromatherapy.

Aug. 4 — "Putting up your harvest" presentation by the University of Wisconsin Extension office.

Aug. 11 — Pet parade.

A third farmers market, Ironwood's Old Depot Farmers and Artisan Market, is from 2 to 6:30 p.m. on Fridays, beginning on July 24 at Depot Park.
