60th annual Range Art Association art show to be held

HURLEY - The talent of the area's artists will be on display this weekend as the Range Art Association holds its 60th annual art show at the Iron County Memorial Building beginning Friday.

The show will feature over 70 entries in a range of artistic mediums, said association Treasurer Gerry Traczyk.

"There is leather work, there is pencil, acrylic, water color and oil paintings," Traczyk said, "there is also wood working and wood burning, from many many different artists."

The show will also feature a display of art created by area students as well as the "Paint like a Master" series - where local artists reproduced famous works of art - that were displayed at the Ironwood Theatre during "The Way We Worked" exhibition.

There will also be a special tribute to talented local artist Paul Castagna who passed away this spring.

Show pieces will be judged this evening, Traczyk said, with the show opening Friday at 10 a.m. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The last hour of the show Sunday will feature a "meet the artist" reception, Traczyk said, where refreshments will be served and the public will have a chance to interact with those responsible for creating the art work.

Unlike past years, the vast majority of the works displayed will be for sale, said Traczyk.

"This year we encouraged all of the artists to have a price tag on it," she said. "It makes it a little more interesting."
