Kids turn leaves into art at Hurley Library

HURLEY - The Hurley City Hall's meeting room was converted into an amateur art space Wednesday as the Hurley Library held its second summer kids reading program with help from the North Lakeland Discovery Center in Manitowish Waters.

The activity allowed participants to turn leaves into artwork - either as part of bandana or as a bookmark.

The kids began by collecting a variety of interesting looking leaves from around the outside of the city hall building. Once the leaves were taken inside, they were either glued onto paper and laminated to make book marks or covered in paint and transferred onto cloth to make brightly decorated bandanas.

The library offers the kid's programs from 2 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday through Aug. 5, according to head librarian Lynne Pedri.

Next week's program will be on birds of prey and allow participants to see several birds that will be brought to the city hall.

The following week will feature, among other things, frog races with live frogs.
