HURLEY - The weekend of events surrounding the 47th annual Paavo Nurmi Marathon began Friday as registration for the marathon - today from Upson to Hurley - was held at the Hurley K-12 school.
Along with registration, Friday also featured the first two races of the weekend, a one-lap race around the track for kids, followed by a mile-long run.
According to race organizers, Isabel Carlson took first in the one-lap event, followed by Lauren Kiecker and Devon Mead.
Aksel Cichocki, Anton Klein and James Foster took the top three places in the one-mile run, according to organizers.
Nine participants raced in the one-mile event, organizers said, with another 34 running the single lap.
The Hurley American Legion hosted its annual Paavo Spaghetti Feed at the school Friday night.
