Gogebic CC begins fall semester

IRONWOOD - Gogebic Community College was filled with the sounds and sights of students, faculty and staff on campus Tuesday as the fall term began this week.

Welcome signs, emblazoned with the college's new forest green logo, greeted students around campus and around town.

Sophomore Darroel Pittman roamed the halls Tuesday afternoon on his way to class. His semester's course schedule includes biology, sociology, college algebra and composition.

"I like composition, I'm a big English fan," he said. "I like to write."

Pittman is on the college's basketball team and said he has high hopes for the season.

"I think we look all right," he said. "We're going to find out as the season goes on."

At the college's bookstore, freshman Jessie Hahta purchased her textbooks and school supplies for the new school year.

"So far, GCC is good," she said. "I'm taking math, English, botany and two labs."

Bookstore manager Brian Panich said the shelves are stocked with apparel and gear with the new logo.

In a student lounge, Katie Nelson was hanging out with her sister, Sarah. Katie said he gave Sarah advice about making the most her time at GCC.
