Black River Harbor hosts fishing derby

BLACK RIVER HARBOR — The annual Labor Day Weekend Fishing Derby at Black River Harbor kicks off today with Powderpuff (women’s) competition.

The Black River Harbor Boating Club contest runs through noon on Labor Day and visitors to the harbor can stop and view the fish and awards ceremony on Monday afternoon.

Prizes are awarded in the lake trout, salmon and rainbow-brown trout divisions.

Powderpuff fish are not eligible to enter the main derby from Saturday through Monday.

Registration will be at the tent on Saturday for main derby.

All boats must leave from and come back to Black River Harbor daily.

Fishing hours for Saturday and Sunday begin at 5:30 a.m. and Monday fishing runs from 5:30 a.m. to noon.

On Monday, fish will be measured between noon and 1 p.m., a good time to visit the contest.

Cash prizes, trophies and door prizes will be awarded after 1:30 p.m. Monday.
