Ribbon-cutting events planned for Monday

Ironwood — Monday will be a busy day for Ironwood City Commissioners and citizens.

The city-related activities will begin at 3 p.m. at Longyear Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground equipment.

At 4 p.m., there will be a ribbon-cutting event at Depot Park for the Michigan Western Gateway Iron Belle Trail.

The city commission will then meet in one of its two monthly sessions at 5:20 p.m. in commission chambers at the Memorial Building.

There will be a public hearing at 5:20 p.m. on amending gross vehicle weight restrictions.

At 5:25 p.m., a public hearing is planned on variance requests to erect at 35-by-50-foot garage at 210 Bonnie Road.

During the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m., commissioners will act on a resolution to establish an off-road vehicle motorized trail route in the area of Miners Memorial Heritage Park. The route was recommended for approval by the city’s parks and recreation committee.

Commissioners will also consider transferring $10,000 to the city of Hurley for the extension of the walking-biking trail from the Montreal River bridge to U.S. 51 in Hurley.

Other items on the agenda include selling a city fire truck for $13,500, awarding a bid for the Patterson tennis courts edging project to Ruotsala Construction for $12,000 and approving a quote for repairs to a pump at the pump station wellfields for $18,525.

The commission will also consider extending the Eagle Waste and Recycling contract from April 30, 2019, to Sept. 1, 2019.
