SPRINGSTEAD, Wis. — Members of the University of Wisconsin’s Iron County Extension Office visited the Sherman Town Hall Thursday to meet residents and discuss programs the office offers.

The goal was to establish relationships with residents and provide an opportunity for the Extension office to share what it was working on and how area residents could get involved.

Representatives from the Price County Extension Office were also present, given the town’s proximity to the county line and the number of area students who attend schools in Park Falls.

County board member Brad Matson, who helped organize the event, explained one of his goals in office was to increase cooperation between the parts of the county and bring resources — like the Extension office — to other areas of the county.

“There’s not a person around that can’t get one thing or the other from the Extension program,” Matson told attendees.

The meeting was very informal, with both residents and Extension employees mingling and discussing a range of programs, including the 4-H youth development work that the office is involved with, as well as the Fe University continuing education program for seniors.

“(Today was about establishing ties with) some of the further distance areas (of the county), areas that we don’t reach as often as we should,” said Will Andresen, who heads the Extension office, “so this was an opportunity for us to get out and connect with some people, share ideas, build relationships. We also had the opportunity to build relationships with our neighbors in Price County. That’s a good thing, too.”
