George B. Wallis Jr.

IRONWOOD, Mich. - George B. Wallis Jr., also known as "PA," 62, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, Sept. 13, 2015, at home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1952, in Ironwood, son of George B. Wallis Sr. and the late Mary Lou (Lopez) Wallis. He attended Hurley, Wis., schools and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1972. He then served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years.

Following his honorable discharge in 1984, he returned to Ironwood and was employed in odd jobs and worked at White Pine Copper Co. until the mine closed. He then moved to Spring Creek, Nev., and was employed in maintenance in a gold mine there for 18 years, returning to Ironwood in June 2014.

George was a member of Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580 of Hurley. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.

He was married to the former Lori S. Winkowski on Dec. 26, 1971, in Ironwood. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Chris (Amy) Wallis, Hurley, with son, Jeremiah and daughter, Summer; daughter, Janeena (Chris) Behrendt, Montreal, Wis., with daughters, Janelle and Shayla; his father, George B. Wallis Sr., Tomah, Wis .; brother, Greg (Sharon), Schofield, Wis .; sister, Betty Ann Mead, Iron Belt, Wis .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by a son, Daniel W., on May 19, 1989; and a sister, Diane Wallis, in childhood.

We love you to the moon and back. Always in our hearts.

Per George's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

Private interment will be in the Hurley Cemetery.
