Old case resurfaces in Iron County Court

HURLEY — An Ironwood man entered a not guilty plea to a possession of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, citation Monday in Iron County Court, when a seven-year-old charge resurfaced.

Leland Ojaniemi, 58, was cited by Iron County Sheriff’s Department deputy Jason Geach on Sept. 6.

An initial adjourned court appearance was set for Oct. 12, when Ojaniemi faces a $263 forfeiture for the citation.

Ojaniemi, who was represented Monday in court by attorney Patrick Boerboon, also faces a worthless check charge dating to April 30, 2008, according to court records. A bench warrant had been issued on Oct. 10, 2008, in the worthless check case, court records show.

Bond was set at $500.

In another case Monday, Sidney R. Seaton, 53, of Ironwood, entered a not guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge. An Oct. 12 pre-trial appearance was scheduled and his bond was continued at $500.

Julia Wagner, 21, of Mercer, entered not guilty pleas to charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Her $500 signature bond was continued under the condition that she not use any alcohol or illegal substances.

Wagner faces a pre-trial conference next Monday.

She was charged with the two misdemeanors on Aug. 25 and is being represented by Sam Filippo.
