Doris M. Sauter

HURLEY, Wis. - Doris M. Sauter, 93, of Garden Estates, Hurley, and formerly of Ironwood, Mich., died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, with her loving family by her side.

The former Doris Erickson was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Bessemer, Mich., daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Newby) Erickson, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1939. Later, she attended Gogebic Community College and became a secretary in 1975.

Following high school, Doris was employed by the Pioneer Ice Cream Shop, JC Penney Co., and Woolworth's in downtown Ironwood, and was secretary at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood for 19 years under pastors Kenneth Nerenz, Gary Park, Arvid Anderson and James Wiberg.

She was married to C. Harold "Stretch" Anderson on Oct. 23, 1943. He died in May of 1980.

She then was married to Carl P. Sauter on June 15, 1985, at Salem Lutheran Church by Pastor James Wiberg. Carl survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jim (Kathy) Anderson, Erwin Township, Ironwood, and Lanny (Gail) Anderson, Show Low, Ariz; a daughter, Gayle Anderson (Al Benner), Minocqua; four grandsons, Sean (Kari) Anderson, Farmington, Minn., Aaron (Becky) Anderson, Ironwood, Nathan Anderson (Tracy), Waukesha, and Karl (Becky) Anderson, Lakeville, Minn .; eight great-grandchildren, McKenna, Katie, Leilah, Lars, Anneka, Ellen, Andrew and Fin; a sister, Jean Mrdjenovich (Walter), Florida; stepchildren, Ken (Alice Ann) Sauter, Royal Oak, Mich., Carol Ann Jacobsen, Coon Rapids, Minn., and David (Barb) Sauter, Las Cruces, N.M .; three stepgrandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Stenzel, Daniel Jacobsen and Marika (Nathan) Patterson; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dave and Joanne Sauter, Ironwood, Dick and Karen Sauter, Golden Valley, Minn., John and Carolyn Sauter, Sun City West, Ariz., Betty Erickson, Florida, and Helen Erickson, Manitowish Waters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Doris was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Jim Erickson.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating.

Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.
