Donald Ray Sabec

DULUTH, Minn. - Donald Ray Sabec, 61, of Bessemer, Mich., died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, following a battle with cancer.

He was born April 4, 1954, in Bessemer Township, son of the late Donald and Dorothy (Brownell) Sabec, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1972. He was employed on the Great Lakes for several years, working on ships, then worked as a cook at Connie's Supper Club in Hurley, Wis., Dairyman's Country Club in Boulder Junction, Wis., Lake of the Torches Casino, Coon's Franklin Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wis., Tula's Café in Minocqua, Wis., Good Time Charlie's in Manitowish Waters, and Romeo's in Ironwood.

Donald was a big Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, granddaughter and sisters.

Surviving are a son, Christopher, Hurley; daughter, April Sabec, Ironwood; granddaughter, Jenna Munsterman; sisters, Carolyn Sabec, Ironwood, Theresa (Butch) Rosendahl, Duluth, and Bonnie (Jim) Kaseno and Kathy (Doug) Brady, both of Wakefield, Mich .; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and his friends at Hillcrest Apartments in Bessemer.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Brenda Lee Sabec, in 2014.

Per Donald's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
