Bessemer - While the temperatures didn't necessarily reflect the event's name, area runners took to the streets of Bessemer and Bessemer Township Saturday for the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency's annual Frozen Rundra walk and run.

Participants could choose either a 2-mile run, 3-mile walk or 6-mile run, according to race organizer Missy Rhenlund, along a course that would run through Anvil Location with turn offs for the shorter distances.

Approximately 43 participants took part in the event, Rhenlund said, which is in its third year.

Participants have increased every year the race has been held, organizers said, noting that only 15 runners braved the 30 below zero temperatures the first year.

Following the race, the agency held a pancake breakfast.

Proceeds from the race will help the organization in areas where the agency's grant funding is unavailable.

The agency provides assistance to the region's senior and low-income residents, Rhenlund said.
