Anne Josephine Ojala

HURLEY, Wis. - Anne Josephine Ojala, 93, of Hurley, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 31, 2015, at Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley.

The former Anne Stimac was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Trimountain, Mich., daughter of the late John and Anna (Klarich) Stimac, attended Trimountain Grade School, and graduated from Jeffers High School in Painesdale, Mich., in 1939 as the youngest member of her class.

She was united in marriage to Waino Ojala by Dr. Nikander of Hancock, Mich., and Father Stephen of Painesdale at Painesdale on Nov. 2, 1940. Waino preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2000.

Anne was employed as a clerk at Paul's Store in Hurley from 1968-1975 and at the Ben Franklin Store, also in Hurley, from 1975-1980. She was a dedicated member of the Montreal and Cary School PTA's and a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ). She enjoyed embroidery and was an accomplished baker.

Surviving are her two daughters, Shirley (Randy) Sus, Wisconsin Dells, and Greta (David) Kennard, Ann Arbor, Mich .; a brother, Anton Stimac, Trimountain; three stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anne was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, George and John Stimac; sisters, Eva Richards and Mary Hartel; and a beloved special niece, Mary Ann Jarvela.

Graveside services and Rite of Committal will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, in the spring, at a time and date to be announced.
