Marilyn J. Baribeau

HURLEY, Wis. - Marilyn J. Baribeau, 86, of Saxon, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in her apartment at the Villa Vista in Hurley, surrounded by her loving family.

The former Marilyn Sailer was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Ashland, daughter of the late John and Saima (Lahti) Sailer, and graduated from Saxon High School in 1946.

She married Arthur P. Baribeau on Oct. 28, 1946, in St. Paul, Minn. They then made their home in Saxon.

Marilyn was employed in her earlier years at Munsingwear in Ashland, the Swanee Potato Farm in Gurney, and Splicewood Lumber in Ashland.

She was a member of the Saxon-Gurney Community Presbyterian Church in Saxon and its Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, birdwatching, her family pets and traveling to visit out-of-state relatives. She especially enjoyed spending time at Lake Superior at Saxon Harbor.

Surviving are her husband, Art, of 69 years; son, Denny, Madison; daughter, Denys (Mike) Vargovich, Gurney; daughter-in-law, Mary Baribeau, Pacific Grove, Calif .; five grandchildren, Wanda (Stuart) Anderson, Roxanne Kokely and Mike Vargovich Jr., all of Saxon, and Charles and Aaron Baribeau, both of Pacific Grove; five great-grandchildren, Lynn, Cody, Dylan, Paige and Mitch; a brother, Clyde (Rose Marie) Sailer, of Carmel, Calif .; sister, Irene Kurek, of Kansas City, Mo .; and sister-in-law, Edith Kaari, of Kimball.

Besides her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by a son, Randy, in 2015; and sister, Phyllis Sailer.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Feb. 14, at 12:30 p.m., preceded by visitation at noon, at the Saxon-Gurney Community Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Don Nickolson officiating.

Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Saxon, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Regional Hospice Services, 216 Aurora St., Ironwood, MI 49938.
