Larry L. Sprenger

MERCER, Wis. - Larry L. Sprenger, 82, of Mercer, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at home.

He was born March 31, 1933, in Oshkosh, son of the late Edward and Tekla (Sydow) Sprenger, and graduated from Watertown High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the  U.S. Marine Corps on Feb. 27, 1952, proudly serving his country in Korea, and was honorably discharged as a corporal on Feb. 26, 1955.

Following his discharge, he was married to Marion R. Block at St. Mark's Church in Watertown. They then made their home in Watertown, where Larry worked as a lineman for Wisconsin Electric Power Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1988 and moving to Mercer in 1991. Marion preceded Larry in death on Oct. 20, 1997.

Larry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mercer, Mercer Area Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9536, and the NRA.

Surviving are a son, Forrest (Susan); daughter, Heidi (Jeff) Beerbohm; grandchildren, Hunter Beerbohm, and Taylor and Rachel Sprenger; and daughter-in-law, Carla Raue, all of Watertown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Larry was predeceased by a son, Toby, on Oct. 16, 2012; sisters, Joan Winton and Shari Winton; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Winton and Don Winton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Mercer, with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating.

Cremation will follow.

Luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall upon conclusion of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church.
