Ronald E. 'Ron' Erickson

WAUSAU, Wis. - Ronald E. "Ron" Erickson, 75, of Ironwood Township, Mich., died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, with his family by his side.

He was born June 17, 1940, in Ironwood Township, son of the late Herbert and Marie (Vronch) Erickson, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1958. He was employed as a carpet installer at the McKevitt-Kershner-Patrick Co. in downtown Ironwood for 20 years, and also at Bentley Furniture, Northern Carpet and as an independent carpet layer until becoming disabled.

Ron enjoyed farming, fishing on Lake Superior, hunting with his boys and spending time at his cottage at Little Girl's Point.

On March 3, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carole A. Luoma at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Ambrose Matejik. Carole survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Cindy), Wausau, and Joel (Kathy), Ironwood; a daughter, Julee Erickson, Ironwood Township; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (Bob) Vittone, Kimball, and Mary (Perry) LaSart, Mountain Iron, Minn .; brothers-in-law, Leland Omdahl, Aurora, Minn., Sheldon (JoAnn) Luoma, Kimball, Kevin (Mary) Luoma and Robert Luoma, both of Ironwood, and Dale Niemi, Hurley; close friends, Matthew, Brennan and Ronald Johnson, Ironwood Township; and numerous other friends.

Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by two sons, Jon, Sept. 6, 2011, and James, March 27, 2015; and a sister, Janice Omdahl, July, 2011.

Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial gathering in celebration of Ron's life will be held Monday, Feb. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood.

Private interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township, in the spring.
