IRONWOOD, Mich. - Vera E. Cox, 84, of Bessemer, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, in Ironwood with her family by her side. She was born March 25, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, daughter of the late Wilhelm and Gertrude Dallmann.
Vera was employed as a dressmaker in Germany. During a vacation at Pine Lake in 1969 she met Charles R. Cox Sr. They were united in marriage on May 2, 1970, in Bessemer. Charles preceded her in death on June 19, 2001.
Vera loved to knit, sew and crochet. Most members of her family have something handmade to prove it. She enjoyed canning "out of the garden." Vera especially enjoyed baking and cooking "all the good German food." She was a member of the Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer and a fan of Marty's Goldenaires.
She is survived by her children, Andrea (Todd Wadzinski) Cox, along with Vera's beloved dog, Abby, of Rothschild, Wis., Jeff (Janice) Cox, of Ironwood, Sandra Anderson, of Duluth and Ella (Patrick) Thompson, of Ontonagon; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Edith Maihold, of Berlin, Germany; and special friends, Lynn and Don Ormes, of Bessemer.
Besides her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by her son, Charles R. Cox Jr .; her daughter, Charlene R. Anderson; and sisters, Inge Hanusch and Rita Buettner.
Funeral services will be held at the Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. Rev. Bill Jacobson will officiate. Vera's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
A luncheon will follow the service in the Kastman Hall at the church.
Spring burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
