John 'Stoneman' Filtz Sr.

WATERSMEET, Mich. - John "Stoneman" Filtz Sr., 84, of Watersmeet, and formerly of Stevens Point, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. He was under the care of his family and Regional Hospice of Bessemer.

He was born May 14, 1931, in Bevent, Wis. He is the son of the late Peter and Johanna (Cychosz) Filtz. His marriage to Marge Molnar took place on Sept. 17, 1955, in South Milwaukee. She survives.

John was a home builder for many years in Stevens Point and surrounding areas. He also was a very skilled mason and loved to split field stone. Many homes and businesses from Stevens Point to Watersmeet display his beautiful field stone. He currently helped with the gravel and stone quarry of Pitlik & Wick Inc. in Watersmeet for more than 10 years.

John loved calling the Northwoods his home and enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, winters in Arizona, trips to Canada and especially spending time with his wife and family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in his name will be established at a later date.

Survivors include: his wife, Marge, three sons, John Jr. (Ann) Filtz of Custer, Wis., Jerry (Mickey) Filtz of Plover, Wis., and Andy (Wanda Ashbeck) Filtz of Custer .; three daughters, Debbie (Bob) Filtz of Milwaukee, Christine "Cookie" (Bob) Nichols of Plano, Texas, and Lisa (Frank Jr.) Pisarski of Junction City, Wis .; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Holy Spirit Parish at 838 Fremont St. in Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday morning at the church. For online condolences, please visit pisarskifuneralhome.com.
