Iron County's job numbers improve

Iron County’s employment numbers improved in March, but they were still the second worst in the state.

The March Iron jobless rate of 9.7 percent was better than the 10.6 percent of February, according to the Department of Workforce Development.

In March 2015, the Iron County jobless rate was 10.7 percent.

Ashland County improved from 7.8 percent in February to 7.6 percent in March, according to the DWD.

Vilas County moved from 9.3 percent to 8.6 percent and Oneida County went from 7.7 percent to 7.3 percent.

In Price County, 5.8 percent were unemployed in March, compared to 6 percent in February.

Bayfield County continued to post the worst jobless numbers in the state at 10.2 percent.

Dane County had the best numbers, with just 3.4 percent unemployed.

A total of 71 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties showed improved numbers in March, according to the DWD.

The DWD said new business formations in the state through March 2016 were up 3.7 percent compared to 2015.

Wisconsin’s seasonally adjusted March unemployment rate of 4.5 percent was better than the national average of 5 percent.
