Kimball Homemakers hold annual pie social, craft show

KIMBALL, Wis - The Kimball Homemakers held its annual pie social and craft show at the Kimball Community Center Saturday.

"We're full and we're doing well," said Mary Smith, the group's president. "Lunchtime is always a good time, get a little more foot traffic through."

Along with delicious slices of homemade pie, Saturday's menu also featured homemade soups and barbecue sandwiches.

The Kimball Homemakers have been around for 50 years, Smith said, and have probably been holding the social for the last 30-35 years.

In recent years, the group added in the craft fair, according to Smith.

"(We) changed it up and are doing the craft show with (the pie social) now ... we have a wide variety of local vendors, they're all local handmade items," she said.

Due to the space limitations of the community center, this year's event featured 11 vendors.

The money raised by the group goes to a wide range of local causes.

"It all stays within our community, either going to charities, organizations or families," Smith said.

Last year, the group bought four car seats for the Iron County Human Services Department so it could transport its clients and children, along with supporting a number of other community projects

While the group has yet to earmark any projects this year, Smith said it always gives to the schools and contributes to something around the holidays.
