George J. Cisewski

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - George J. Cisewski, 86, of Ironwood, died peacefully Wednesday, May 11, 2016, with his loving family by his side, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

He was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Ironwood, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley, Wis., with the Class of 1948. He then served briefly stateside in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

On June 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Richards at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church rectory in Montreal, Wis., by the late Fr. Coleman.

George was employed as produce manager at National Tea Foods in Ironwood and Erspamer's Northpride/Jamboree Foods in Hurley prior to his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former St. Michael's Catholic Church, and a past member of the Aurora Athletic Club and Eagle Bluff Golf Club.

George's life was all about God, family, friends and fun. He was the most caring person who always had a compliment for others. He loved making all he met smile and laugh. He cherished his soul mate, his wife Shirley, with great passion and love. They lit up any dance floor and they danced as one. He always wanted to know "the news" about his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. His four children were all born on holidays: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving.

George, with Shirley by his side, enjoyed life to the fullest, cherishing family and friend get-togethers and events, dancing, playing golf, casino trips, taking care of their grandchildren and watching them lead successful lives. The grandchildren were very special and dear to his heart. He was always counting the number of grand and great-grandchildren there were and proud to have such a wonderful family.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley, of 63 years; two sons, David (Debbie), Ironwood, and Mark, Maple Grove, Minn .; two daughters, Sue (Art) Spets, Bessemer, and Beth (Jeff) Lauren, Gurney, Wis .; 11 grandchildren, Matt (Sabrina) Spets, Steve Spets, Ross Spets (Tara Tregembo), Jill (Aaron) Luoma, Pam (Joe) Ballard, Kyle (Kori) Cisewski, Connor Cisewski, Ryan Cisewski, Brenna (Paul) Erickson, Sheena (Ryan) Seppanen, and Derrick Lauren; 15 great-grandchildren, Danika, Sawyer and Grady Spets, Sadie and Molly Luoma, Mya and Caleb Ballard, Kora Cisewski, Andrew, Evan, Luke and Noah Erickson, and Madeline, Lincoln and Ryker Seppanen; a brother-in-law, Jack (Pat) Richards, Barron, Wis .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Natalie Seppanen.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.

Luncheon will be served in the parish hall upon return from the cemetery.
