Accent! show hits all the right notes

IRONWOOD - There was something for everyone at the historic Ironwood Theatre Sunday afternoon as Accent!, the Ironwood Area Schools show choir, performed a variety of songs as part of the group's second of two concerts this weekend.

"Somebody said to us there was just a different kind of energy this year, that they were really glad to see. They thought it was really professional," director Sandra Genisot said after the show. "They commented on the vocalists and how so many of them were featured, and featured in ways that really allowed kids to show their ability."

For almost two hours the group performed as a whole group, individual soloists and small ensembles.

There were also a couple novelty numbers, which Genisot said went over well with the audience.

She said the No. 1 goal is to give a performance that is entertaining. "I really think we achieved that this year."

Genisot credited the performers for the excellent show.

"I'm really just at a loss for words, except that I just keep thinking about something I often say and that is, 'It's amazing what kids can do if you let them,'" she said.

With the pair of spring shows on Saturday and Sunday complete, Genisot is already getting excited for future performances.

"I know someone else said we took it to a new level this year," she said, relaying another positive review she heard. "So those were all really fabulous compliments for our kids that really just reaffirms the hard work they've been doing this year. Because as you can imagine, it takes a lot of hard work to put on a performance like that and I really feel like it paid off and I'm really excited about next year."
