Co-defendant in Sunset Road meth case pleads guilty

BESSEMER — The second defendant in the Sunset Road methamphetamine lab case pleaded guilty in Gogebic County Circuit Court Tuesday to one count of operating/maintaining a meth lab.

Sara Anne Harris, 31, of Ironwood Township, pleaded guilty to the 20-year felony as part of a plea agreement that has three other charges — a second count of operating a meth lab and two counts of operating a meth lab near a residence — as well as a conspiracy charge, dismissed at sentencing.

Gogebic County Prosecutor Nick Jacobs said Harris admitted to her role in operating a meth lab with co-defendant John Raymond Davis in the Sunset Road apartment the two were renting.

Jacobs said she also told Circuit Judge Michael Pope that she purchased ingredients and supplied them to Davis.

The meth lab was discovered in April by members of the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team while the pair were actively producing meth, shutting down Sunset Road for a period and sending several officers to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Davis pleaded guilty to two counts of operating a meth lab in May and was sentenced to 10 years in prison earlier this month.

Jacobs said the prosecutor’s office worked closely with the investigating officers throughout the prosecution.

“The resolution of this case was done with the advice and consent of officers from GIANT, who were instrumental in investigating the case,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs said Harris’ bond was revoked Tuesday, although she has been at the Gogebic County Jail since her arrest.

She is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 13.
