Boyd, Graser win in township; two trustee candidates out

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Among the contests decided in Tuesday's primary election were Ironwood Township's supervisor and treasurer races.

Steven Boyd and Maria Graser won their races for supervisor and treasurer, respectively.

Boyd, a current trustee on the board, defeated former township supervisor Marvin LaGrew by a vote of 361 to 288 in the bid to replace outgoing supervisor Alan Baron. Boyd's 361 votes represented approximately 55 percent of the voters casting ballots in the race, to LaGrew's roughly 44 percent.

Graser defeated current treasurer Jyl Renee Olson-DeRosso by a vote of 356 to 272. Graser captured roughly 56 percent of the vote, to Olson-DeRosso's 43 percent.

While Boyd and Graser will appear on the November ballot, the lack of Republicans on Tuesday's ballot means they should win that election as well.

Clerk Mary Segalin received 511 votes in her unchallenged re-election bid.

The township's four trustee positions were also on the ballot, with six Democrats and one Republican vying for the seats. The top four vote-getters - Kevin Lyons, Marlene Mieloszyk, Bernard Brunello and Rudy Grbavcich - in the Democratic race advanced to the November ballot to face Bev Michaels, the lone Republican in the race. Four of those five will win seats in November.

Lyons received 398 votes (19 percent); Mieloszyk, 392 (19 percent); Brunello, 372 (18 percent); and Grbavcich, 324 (15 percent).

Robin Lonsway Bock and Darrin Kimbler rounded out the trustee race with 320 and 292 votes, respectively.

Michaels received 59 votes in the GOP contest.
