MERCER, Wis. - Dennis M. Dwyer, 72, of Lakeview Apartments, Mercer, died peacefully Thursday evening, Aug. 4, 2016, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 16, 1943, in Milwaukee, son of the late James and Charlotte (Jameson) Dwyer, and attended Milwaukee and Stoughton schools. He served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard, then became a certified welder and worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. He also was lead welder for Kurth Malting Corp. in Milwaukee. For the majority of his working career, he was a long-haul truck driver for 40 years, retiring in 2015.

Dennis loved his hobbies such as all-terrain vehicle riding, woodworking and fishing. He liked to collect t-shirts, pocket knives and lighters from his travels across the states while on the road.

Surviving are a son, Glenn (Christine), Waunakee; daughter, Bobbi Jo (Dan) Behling, Marshfield; five grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah) Dwyer, Isaiah Dwyer and Aaron Dwyer, all of Waunakee, Knico Nyman (Joellene Dawson), Mercer, and Alyssa Nyman, Green Bay; great-granddaughter, Addison Dwyer; brother, David (Cindy), Whitewater; numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law; his former spouse and caregiver, Nancy Schwartz, Mercer; and very special best friends, Tom and Denise Thompson, Mercer.

Out of respect for Dennis's wishes, cremation has taken place and no immediate formal services will be held. His family will have a small service at a later date.
