Cody Richard Cunico

HURLEY, Wis. - Cody Richard Cunico, 25, of Hurley, left us unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, in Hurley.

He was born Oct. 30, 1990, in Ashland, the son of Richard and Kathleen (Stolt) Cunico.

He attended the Hurley School District, graduating with the class of 2009. Cody was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. He was an avid hockey player, playing with the Polar Bear Hockey Club for many years and also played AAA Hockey for Minocqua and Spooner. Cody had been employed as an apprentice electrician in Fort Myers, Fla., and Madison. Most recently he had been employed as an Oil Rig Supervisor in Fort Collins, Colo.

Cody would do anything for his friends. His goal was always to make everyone laugh and he wasn't afraid to be the class clown. His smile was infectious and he gave it readily. His many loves in life included, playing hockey, paintball, watching movies and spending time with his friends. Whatever activity it was, he embraced it with his entire focus and attention until something else piqued his interest then it was full bore into that. He was always there for his sister, Jessica.

He is survived by his parents, Rick and Kathy of Hurley; two sisters, Tiffany (Wes) Hanson of Duluth, Minn., and Jessica Cunico of Oshkosh; his paternal grandmother, Mary Cunico of Hurley; his maternal grandparents, Barbara and David Beckman of Ironwood, Mich .; his closest friends, Geoffrey Nevala, Logan Vemmer and BJ Wesenberg; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ottilio Cunico.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Inurnment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hurley.
