Robert E. Lindberg

ONTONAGON, Mich. - Robert E. Lindberg passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Facility.

He was born in Bruce Crossing on Dec. 3, 1932, to the late Charles and Sophia Lindberg. After attending local schools, he worked for the Peterson Lumber Company in Watersmeet before joining the military.

Robert was stationed in Korea where he served with the 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery automatic weapons battalion. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean War Service Ribbon with a bronze star. Robert was a life member of VFW Post 9345 of Bruce Crossing and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Oliver, Charles and Raymond; sisters, Alvina Juhola, Martha Fleminig and Shirley Sexton; niece, Liz Coryell; and several nephews.

Robert is survived by his sister, Sigrid Bonetti; and many nieces and nephews who loved "Uncle Bob."

A graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m., with military rites provided by the Ontonagon County Veterans Association. The Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel is assisting the family.
