George Thomas Manderson Sr.

WHITE PINE, Mich. — George Thomas Manderson Sr., age 84, of White Pine, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 25, 2016, at War Memorial Hospital.

George was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Detroit to the late George and Elizabeth (Nimmo Allan) Manderson. After high school, George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George married Catherine Chomor on March 23, 1957, in Lyons, Ill. He was a corporal in a Field Artillery Division. He was a member of Moose Lodge 220, the NRA, American Legion Post 462, and VFW Post 5600. George enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching the “Price is Right,” and watching the Grit Channel. George loved to fix things for anyone and everyone.

George is survived by his children, Elaine Sanabria, of lower Michigan, George (Beverly) Manderson, Jr., of Sault Ste. Marie, and David (Susan) Manderson, of Chicago; four grandchildren, Ernesto Vera, Eric Vera, Nichol Sanabria, and George Manderson III; and several great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine Manderson; a daughter, Laura Manderson; three sisters, Sarah Fagan, Marie Fagan, and Betty Martin; and a brother, John Manderson.

A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie, with Pastor Larry Witte officiating. Friends may gather at the funeral home that same day starting at 1 p.m.
