Carl L. Coesfeld

IRONWOOD - Carl L. Coesfeld, 70, of Ironwood, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Ironwood. He was born August 25, 1946 in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Elmer and Ethel (Lentz) Coesfeld.

Carl grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Edwin C. Denby High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor. Carl then attended college at Northern Michigan University and Lake Superior State University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling. He worked as a Veteran's Counselor in Sault Ste. Marie and held various other jobs helping others. Carl was one who cared very much about people, especially young adults. He volunteered as a tutor and for the Big Brothers Big Sisters. He enjoyed reading, fishing, woodworking, his furry four legged friends, and especially enjoyed music.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Ironwood; his daughters, Amber (Steven) Yatchak of Marquette, and Adriane (Joseph Bravatto) Birkmeier of Ironwood; his granddaughter, Payton Birkmeier of Ironwood; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township, with Rev. Kurt Kovanan officiating. Full Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #5 of Ironwood. Carl's family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service, at the church on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Animal Shelter of Ironwood.
