Bessemer - With 10 wash-outs to be repaired this fall, construction crews will be scrambling to get Lake Road in the Little Girl's Point area repaired before the snow piles up.
The road has been closed from the Wisconsin side since the devastating storm of July 11-12.
Gogebic County Road Commission Engineer-Director Darren Pionk gave the county board a brief review of project plans on Wednesday.
Responding to a question from a commissioner, he said he's optimistic that the repairs will be completed on schedule, by the end of next month.
"We are progressing very well at this point," he said, noting there will a great deal of activity in the next few weeks.
Pouring could begin Friday or Saturday.
Pionk said many loads of gravel had been stockpiled at the wash-out sites and the workers were awaiting the arrival of box culverts.
Lake Road is closed about a mile past the border bridge near the mouth of the Montreal River. The wash-out there is one of the largest to be repaired.
Pionk said the Powers Road detour route continues for Point area residents three months after the storm dumped 12 inches of rain in four hours, wiping out nearby Saxon Harbor.
Pionk added that regular progress meetings are being conducted with the construction crews as the projects along Lake Road advance.
The road commission's website features a map of the culvert and bridge locations that must be repaired at the Point.
