Janet M. Robinson

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Janet M. Robinson, 83, of Hurley, Wis., died peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 19, 2016, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.

The former Janet Sunie was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Oma, Wis., daughter of the late Toivo and Sigrid (Warpula) Sunie, and attended Saxon, Wis., schools.

She married Sylvester “Robby” Robinson on Aug. 19, 1950, in Hurley. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2006.

Jan was employed as a certified nurse’s aide at Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley for 18 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley and the Auxiliary to Hurley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580. She enjoyed her flower garden, playing bingo and scratch-off lottery tickets. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Joe (Jackye), Mercer, Wis., and Paul, Hurley; a daughter, Kathy (Roger) Vallejo, Hurley; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Lindy Sunie, Ashland, Wis .; sister, Kate (John) Stannish, Mercer; brother-in-law, Alan Lippert, Wausau, Wis .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Jan was predeceased by a son, Randy, in 2014; great-grandson, Spencer Robinson, in 2003; brothers, Leslie Sunie in infancy and Eugene Sunie; and sister, Marian Lippert.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private graveside services and inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hurley, in the spring.
