Ironwood Township — The Ironwood Township Board of Trustees approved purchasing some additional software for the township hall Monday, which is expected to make the day-to-day financial operations of the township run smoother.

Treasurer Maria Graser explained she learned of the software — BS&A’s Cash Receipting — while attending a training session at the city of Ironwood. While the township uses several BS&A products, Graser explained the Cash Receipting software will help connect the various types of accounts.

“(Cash Receipts) kind of connects the tax part of (BS&A) with the utility part of it. To me, it looks like it would save a lot of errors,” Graser said, explaining the software’s barcode reader automatically pulls up a resident’s account. “You can put in how they are paying — cash, check — and then it goes right to their accounts in either the tax program or the utility program. That saves (the office staff) from entering in the wrong account number, or entering in the wrong parcel number, because right now we are just keying it all in. At the end of the day, it prints out a report showing everything you’ve done for the day.”

Graser said the software could also be used for resident’s making garbage payments.

The software will cost between $6,010 and $7,295, depending on how much of the $1,285 in travel expenses listed in the contract the township winds up paying.

Trustee Kevin Lyons, who made the motion approving the purchase, stipulated that the money should try to be found in this year’s budget for the purchase — with more information on the exact breakdown of funds expected at the next meeting.

In other action:

— The board approved a resolution authorizing Supervisor Steve Boyd to act as the township’s representative and sign documents relating to the township’s Stormwater, Asset Management, and Wastewater grant.

— The board also approved a resolution authorizing Graser to deposit money on behalf of the township and related municipal bodies.

— The board of trustees also approved the various appointments to boards and committees for the upcoming term.

— Fire Chief Scott Carlson informed the board the township’s Christmas for Kids event will be held Saturday at the township hall. Carlson said doors will open at 9:30 a.m., with Santa visiting kids between 10 a.m. and noon.
