Chamber hosts vintage snowmobile parade Friday

HURLEY - The Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Vintage Snowmobile parade Friday evening.

Sleds will line up at the Depot in downtown Ironwood around 5:30 p.m. The parade starts at 6 and will follow the snowmobile trail into Hurley, ending at the Iron Horse trailhead at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Silver Street.

Fireworks are planned at the trailhead following the parade.

The parade is part of the greater Vintage Snowmobile races set for Saturday at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds in Ironwood. The Hurley chamber is one of several sponsors of that event.

Vintage racers will have a training session at the fairgrounds on Friday afternoon from 1 to 4. Saturday's racing begins at 9 a.m.

Racing will return to the fairgrounds Jan. 7-8 for the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus.

Besides the races and parade, the area is set for a big week of winter sports, according to chamber spokesperson Rita Franzoi.

"The snowmobile trails are open, but with icy conditions," she said. "All the area ski hills are open, too."

Area cross country ski and snowshoe trails are open, as well.
