The average number of arrests over the last four years during New Year’s celebrations is 22.75 in Gogebic County. The lowest number recorded in the past four years was 21 arrests/citations in 2015. The high number is 26, in 2014.

This year, with the celebration of the New Year occurring over a weekend, expectations were high for the record being broken, especially with the influx of tourists enjoying snow-covered trails and local night life and festivities.

Local law enforcement made 22 arrests/citations in the transition from 2016 to 2017 in Michigan.

The crimes range across the spectrum of dust-ups expected when a holiday known for partying occurs over a weekend. Highlights included one assault, one armed robbery, one disorderly person and one drug arrest, with one operating while intoxicated to wrap up the weekend.
