Ironwood - The volunteers for this years SISU cross country race and ski fest met with race leadership on Tuesday at the Memorial Building in downtown Ironwood to identify weak areas of support to ensure the event goes off without a hitch.

Jim Decur, President of the Ski Fest Board, called the meeting to order and handed the affair over to Jackie Powers, Race Director.

Powers identified weaknesses in their volunteer support and called for more assistance from area volunteers. They currently need additional volunteer support

-At the finish line to work with the aid station and in assisting skiers to remove equipment post race

-With the food team at the Memorial Building either serving the racers or even being the driver to go back and forth to Rigoni's Bakery because the food must be kept at certain temperatures and served within a window of time for health regulations.

-Friday at the Depot Dash for children between 4-6 p.m. They need volunteers to help kids get their equipment off and moved through the area

-For Expo set up and race prep on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. To 12 p.m.

-And Sunday morning around 9 a.m. For clean up at the Memorial Building and to cover the snowshoe race.

Temperatures are expected to be in the balmy low negatives to zero on Saturday, so the racers are going to experience extra difficulty fighting against the cold during the race while the volunteers stationd outdoors will need quicker rotations. To volunteer you can email the committee at [email protected] or you can call 715-254-4104 and leave a message.
