Ironwood - Ironwood Aspirus Hospital staff greeted Andrew Lawson into this world as the first locally born baby of the new year on Jan. 7 at 7:16 p.m.

Andrew is the first-born son Matt and Bobbi Jo Lawson and came into this world with a fighting weight of 6 pounds, 1.5 ounces.

Staff members at the hospital were going to induce labor on Monday, Jan. 9. Andrew was not waiting around though. Another family was also scheduled for an inducement Jan. 9, but they also went into labor, resulting in a race to see the world. These two may spend the next 18 years striving for achievement against each other, in a metal sharpening metal kind of way.

The Lawson's have two sets of happy grandparents with the birth of Andrew, but haven't been overly intrusive to the first time parents. The same cannot be said for the family pet, Pepper.

Pepper began showing signs of advanced knowledge of Andrew's presence before the parents became aware of the pregnancy and spent the last nine months attached to Bobbi Jo at the hip.

Young Andrew has multiple male cousins, but there are no female children in the current round of youthful cousins. We will see how long this lasts.
