John William Ekdahl, 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.
John was born on May 23, 1922, in Baraga, Mich., to the late Henry and Anna Ekdahl. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in various units of the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Elvi;” daughter, Margaret “Margo;” son, Steve; granddaughter, Loretta “Lori;” brothers, Walfred, Edwin, Arthur, Edward, Eino, Paul, Carl and Frederick; and sisters, Martha, Ellen and Elsie.
John is survived by his son-in-law, Howard LaPointe; grandchildren, Nicolas LaPointe and Sarah (Jeremy) Wolfe; great-grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, Dylan and Grant; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold the graveside service at a later date.
