HURLEY, Wis. - Evelyn H. O'Berto, 80, of Iron Belt and Henderson, Nev., died peacefully Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, 2017, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, surrounded by her loving family.

The former Evelyn H. Perhalla was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Zokopian) Perhalla, attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1953. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Wisconsin State University-Superior in 1962 and taught in Minong, Hayward and at Ironwood Catholic School, as well as substitute teaching in numerous area schools.

She was married to Frank P. O'Berto on Jan. 25, 1964, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley.

Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Church in Hurley and former member of Eagle Bluff Golf Club. Her interests included deer hunting, gardening, canning, kayaking, cliff rappelling and playing Texas Hold 'em and Bingo. She also was an excellent cook and baker and was the first female member of the Hurley School Board. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Frank, of 52 years; five children, Dr. Jennifer (Matt) Hanson, Manhattan, Kan., John (Sheri) O'Berto, Boulder City, Nev., Andrew O'Berto, Hurley, Catherine (Bill) Vernetti, Ironwood Township, and Jim O'Berto, Iron Belt; five grandchildren, Matthew Hanson, Kate Hanson, Frank Hanson, Melissa O'Berto and Sam O'Berto; brother, Rudolph (Susan) Perhalla, and sister, Eloise Perhalla, both of Ironwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by brothers, Steve and John Perhalla; and sisters, Anna Perhalla in infancy, Mary Gacek, Elizabeth Jarrell, Margaret Kurtz, Katherine Perhalla, Jeannette Stuart, Agnes Perhalla and Josephine Florek.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Iron Belt, later in the spring.
