MSU Extension offering parenting classes in Bessemer

BESSEMER — The Michigan State University Extension office in Bessemer is hosting parenting classes every Monday from 4-5:30 p.m.

Classes will be at the Extension office on North Moore Street. Last year, the classes were early in the afternoon and according to Erin Ross, interfered with many peoples’ work schedules.

This year they made the classes later in the day to accommodate schedules, while also still being available for public transportation.

Ross said, “beyond those required to take the parenting classes by the MDHHS, many day care providers and early childhood education providers also use the courses for additional continuing education requirements.” A 1.5-hour class comes with a certificate of completion at the end of each session.

MSU has an Extension office in each county in the Upper Peninsula, except the Keewenaw, which partners with the Houghton office, according to Ross. MSU Extension programs are open to everyone and if special accommodations are necessary, contact Ross at 906-663-4045, extension 624, at least one week in advance.
