Hurley — An Ironwood woman was sentenced in Iron County Court recently for expelling bodily substances at police officers and resisting or obstructing an Iron County Sheriff’s Department deputy.

Kristen Nicole Samierad, 29, a military veteran, received a deferred prosecution on the felony spitting count under the conditions that she must spend six months in the Iron County Jail at Hurley.

She must have quarterly contact with Dan Johns, representing the Iron County District Attorney’s office, and pay $65 each quarter to him for monitoring the deferred prosecution agreement.

Samierad was also ordered by Judge Patrick Madden to pay restitution amounting to $538.

She must be tested within 30 days for any communicable diseases. The results of those tests will be provided to the DA’s office so the deputy she spit on can be notified.

She was also ordered to have no negative contact with law enforcement officers as part of the sentence.

According to court records, the incident occurred on Aug. 8.

A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed after Samierad entered a no contest plea to resisting an officer.
