WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Ruth E. Karianen, 91, of Trout Creek, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
Ruth was born in Bruce Crossing, to Jacob and Hilda (Heikkinen) Niemi on April 20, 1925, on the family farm. She enjoyed making rugs, wine, canning and the outdoors. Ruth was a member of the General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth (Gloria) Karianen, of Trout Creek; two daughters, Clare (Jack) Pfeifer, of Brookfield, Wis., and Barbara (Kirk) Piehl, of Kenosha, Wis .; 10 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilho; her son, Alvin Karianen; a daughter, Christine Hiitola; and her grandson, Mark Karianen.
Visitation will take place Saturday, May 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. EDT, at the Cane Funeral Home in Bruce Crossing, with an Eastern Star service to be held at 10:30. The funeral service will be at 11.
Burial will take place in Agate Cemetery.
