June Kotila-Treptow

BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. — June Kotila-Treptow, 78, died peacefully at home on May 3, 2017.

June was born on June 28, 1938, in Bruce Crossing, the daughter of Eddie and Selma Illikainen.

June is one of three children, along with her brothers, Michael (Kathy) Illikainen, Grand Rapids, and Stanley (Terri) Illikainen, Hurricane, W.Va.

June graduated from Ewen High School.

June was survived by husband, Robert Treptow; two daughters, Janine Tadlock, Wakefield, and Christine Kotila-Bowers, New Orleans; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by daughter, Lynn Kotila.

June was an incredibly talented artist, painted pictures, carved wood, sewed anything and everything, dyed fabrics, knitted, rode horses, flew an airplane, drove a bulldozer and tractors, milked cows, raised puppies and loved her chickens. She also taught art classes at Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University. June and her husband wintered in Arizona/Texas and lived in Bruce Crossing during the summer.

A celebration of her life will be held in Bruce Crossing on Memorial Day weekend. Pastor Steven Washburn of Bruce Crossing Bible Church will officiate.
